As a husband and wife team, we’ve photographed countless Michigan weddings- from emotional first looks in downtown Kalamazoo to golden hour portraits by the lake- and we’ve learned that comfort in front of the camera doesn’t come from posing perfectly. It comes from being present, relaxed, and genuinely connected to each other.
Here’s how to make that happen on your wedding day.
1. Get to know your photographer before the big day
Feeling comfortable starts with trust. When you know the people behind the cameras, everything changes. We always schedule time to chat before your wedding- whether it’s over coffee, FaceTime, or during your engagement session. By the time your day arrives, it should feel like you’re being photographed by friends, not strangers.
2. Focus on each other, not the camera
The best photos happen in the moments when you forget the camera exists. Whisper something funny, hold each other close, take a deep breath together- that’s the magic we want to capture. If you focus on how it feels instead of how it looks, your photos will tell the real story of your day.
3. Trust your photographer’s direction
You don’t need to know what to do with your hands (we promise). Our job is to gently guide you through moments, so your movements feel natural and genuine0 never stiff or staged. You can relax knowing we’ll take care of the angles, light, and all the behind the scenes details.
